The Game's Epidemic.......

The second half has begun. We lost a tough one tonight on the road in Sarasota. Lauren Gagnier threw 8 innings and only allowed 1 run, but it was enough to beat the Flying Tigers tonight, who scored none! We had some opportunities, but no big hit. A couple of base running blunders didn’t help things either. Running the bases correctly is a huge part of the game and is not taught or stressed enough with young players. Simple things, like being aggressive on balls in the dirt, are so important in… Continue

What it is all about......

Just got into a rain delay in a day game here in Lakeland, and for some odd reason, inspired to write a few words. The Flying Tigers are currently in last place in the North Division of the Florida State League with 2 games left in the 1st half. Come Thursday, we start 0-0 for the second half with a chance for the playoffs
Managing in the minor leagues can be frustrating at times. Lots of issues to deal with. Road trips, hotels, player moves, reports, and the rain and heat in Florida present the… Continue

When To Give The Green Light

This article is cross-posted at baseballthink.com

After the Reds-Royals game, Brandon Phillips was disciplined by Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker for ignoring a take sign on a 3-0 count. Phillips popped up to end the inning. Baker claimed it’s the first and last time it will ever happen to him as a manager. Phillips… Continue

New NBC League - Oklahoma

I am proud to announce a new NBC League out of Chickasha, OK, the Washita Valley Baseball League (www.washitavalleybaseball.webs.com). The league was formed because the old NBC Red River League folded over the past winter with, still, a need for college kids to play somewhere over the… Continue

Mac N Seitz 15/u 4-0 at Kansas University Showcase

Our team ran its record to 26-2 for the season, after going 4-0 in the 16/U Jayhawk Classic at Kansas University this past weekend. The last game on Sunday was the most exciting when Spencer Brown hit two homeruns, which included a two out 7th inning 3 run homerun to win the game 10-8 over the Barnstormers. Spence hit it over the left field fence near the 375 mark. We will be playing this weekend June 25-28th at Maplewood JC in Kansas city in a 16/u Showcase.

MLB Tryouts

Some of my teammates and I from CSU East Bay went to the MLB Tryouts. We got there about a half hour before the time for sign ups. Then we stood around in line with about 75 other pitchers waiting to throw 5 pitches against a gun. Pitchers got two rotations, but the second rotation required you to pass the first test to make the cut. I hit 87 mph and wasn't even loose yet,… Continue

Hitter of the Night in the NECBL

My Hitter of the Night in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for games played on June 4th is Jim Wood from the Holyoke Blue Sox by way of Trinity College. Honorable Mention
*Matt Marra (Le Moyne--Sanford) 3 for 5, 2 runs, db
*Robert Stumpo (West Chester--Sanford) 3 for 5, 3 rbi's, db

Australian Baseball

Playing in Australia is a legit experience. You play against top quality players that are signed from pro teams back at home in the U.S.from Independent clubs and big league clubs. The competition, surprisingly enough is pretty legit. The pitching varries however you get guys that throw from mid 80's to low 90's. There aren't many Americans that play in the league due to clubs not paying for flights over here. The teams that do have imports usually don't have any players that are signed. In Quee… Continue

Hitting Strategy: Don't step into the batters box without a hitting game plan

It is widely acknowledged that hitting a baseball is one of the most difficult tasks in all of sports. Standing in the batters box 60 feet 6 inches away from the pitcher whom throws a white 3 inch baseball across a 17 inch plate at speeds up to 90+ mph with only a 33 inch bat possessing a sweet spot of 3. 7 inches can cause anxiety for many players. When you factor in the potential for pitches of different speeds, locations, and movements, as well as the 8 other position players behind the pitch… Continue
